Betfair's Yahoo Deal

Online betting exchange Betfair has signed a deal with Yahoo to create a new betting exchange on their existing technology, extending its platform to a mass market audience.

Bookmakers: adapt or die!

From the CSFI Report:

"The key is that betting exchanges put technology in the hands of punters that allows them to act in the role of layers, which previously had been the exclusive preserve of bookmakers."

Irish Racing in a Healthy State

Success for the major festivals, more sponsorship and a lot iof growth in racehorse ownership were the key factors here.

Crowds at the racing festivals in Galway (September Festival) had the biggest growth with 12,500 in attendance. That's up by 52%! The Tramore (August Festival) also had a big crowd at 23,000, up by 28%.

Caterick racecourse in North Yorkshire have changed the title of a race today, having originally called Ilkley Handicap Chase to Vote: Keep Big Mac In Handicap Chase

The race is today (Thursday 13th January 2005) at 1420

Bookies "missed out" on millions of £

Gambling 'punters' came out on top last year, according to bookmakers who claim they missed out on millions of pounds because of a massive run of winning bets.

£2,500 Racing Writers Contest:: Entrants sought.

Writers are being given a chance to win some of the £2,500 of prizes in competition surrounding the world of horse racing.

They say:

No knowledge of the sport is needed, and the article or prose can be fact or fiction.

The Wills Writing Awards are open to young writers, with categories for the under 26s and under 19s.

Cheltenham Gold Cup Tickets Sold Out! (that's 50,000!)

50,000 tickets for the first day at the 2005 Cheltenham Gold Cup on a Friday sold!

The big race is switching from its traditional slot as the National Hunt Festival and will be extending horse racing from three to four days.

Critics say the course is cashing in on demand from punters.
